South Shields born Martyn Waghorn is set to return to Sunderland in the New Year, once his loan deal is complete in January with Leicester City.  The young striker has impressed Sunderland's manager Steve Bruce who has had scouts watch every game Waghorn played for the Championship outfit since allowing him to go out on loan.

Bruce will be hoping to push current dead wood strikers David Healy and Daryl Murphy out the door, when the January transfer market opens, making Waghorn 4th choice long side Bent, Jones and Campbell.

Althought young Waghorn spoke about how he'd like to stay down south for the rest of the season, his heart is in Sunderland as a fan and a player and would jump at the chance to play 1st team football for his team.
