Local newspaper reports that Boro boss Garth Southgate is going to make an approach for Sunderland forward Daryl Murphy.

Southgate is expecting Boro striker Afonso Alves to sign for Arab Emirate side Al-Sadd in the forth coming weeks as the Arab transfer window is still open.  With the English leagues transfer window now shut, Middlesbrough will be looking into loan deals to help bolster the side.

Sunderland striker Murphy was close to leaving Sunderland during this summer, the Black Cats expected an offer from Ipswich Town but Murphy could agree on personal terms.  With the arrival of Frazer Campbell and Darren Bent to partner Kenwyne Jones up front, Murphy would have to fight things out with David Healy for 4th choice.
