Oh dear, more twists and turns…

Colchester have been the surprise package this season, winning 15 times at home, more that anyone else in the league. And Sunderland were next to tumble. With clinical finishing on Colchester's part and a lacklustre performance from Keano's Black Cats, the score ended 3-1. Oh dear. Keano wasn't too upset by the defeat; I suppose you can't really argue with one defeat in eighteen games, the first in 2007…it had to end sometime.

Despite the defeat, and with an abundance of optimism, I looked to Molineux on Sunday for the Midlands derby, and hoping McCarthy could do us a favour for once. It started badly, but then the pint was half full once again as Wolves went 2-1 up…cue celebrations. A few minutes later however…cue sadness. Jammy Brummies went 3-2 in front, ah well; I would've taken second place at the start of the season. But wait, the God's sent Sunderland, and Wolves one last lifeline in the form of Michael McIndoe…a penalty in the last minute, he was on a hatrick…to draw his team level against their bitter rivals…up he stepped…. and suddenly he was transformed into Michael Gray and a soft penalty was gobbled up by the Blue's keeper.

The Glass was well and truly half empty…optimism had gone. It just shows how close it really is at the top of the league, one defeat in eighteen and we drop a league place. With games against Burnley (which the Preston based SAFC supporters club are attending in huge numbers…3) and Luton on the last game of the season, we should get six points in theory, meaning Birmingham have to slip up somewhere. And then I glance at the fixture list, who else but Preston could hand us the Championship title by stopping the Brummies winning…it's going to be a nail biter of a last day of the season…I can't wait.
