Arca Could Stay

Arca, a favourite with the fans, has been at Sunderland since 2000 - when Peter Reid brought him to Wearside in a £3.5 million deal from Argentinos Juniors.

Chairman-elect, Niall Quinn, has expressed his desire for Julio to stay but has admitted the final decision lies with Arca and his agent, Stefan Schwarz.

Espanyol have this week confirmed an interest in the 25 year old, sparking rumours that Arca could be heading to La Liga when the takeover is 100% complete.

"As we have no manager at present I've spoken to Julio at length and expressed a desire to see him playing for Sunderland next season," said Quinn.

"As always in football, it will be his agent and Julio himself who will determine if that is the case."
