Ball Pleased For Stead

The Sunderland caretaker boss was also pleased at seeing the side battle back from a goal behind to leave Goodison Park with a well deserved draw.

"They've gone out and had a right go," Ball said after the 2-2 draw.

"We got back in the game and then gave it away so it was good to get the point in the end. Rory Delap's effort near the end was terrific. It makes you look up and say: 'Any chance mate?'

"The second goal we conceded was frustrating because we'd got back in the game but we got our reward in the end. We got what we deserved.

"It's very difficult when things are going against you. We spoke to Jon Stead about things this week. He is very bright in training and it was good to see him finally get his goal. He just needed to get a bit of luck.

"The players were delighted for him as well. You could see that from the way they all celebrated.

"We need to show the same commitment next week. The supporters deserved this, they are great. I think we've given them something to shout about and it has come at a tough place today."
