Martin O’Neill: “It was a great win for us.

“We got off to a really good start, maybe could even have scored before we did get our opening goal.

“But I thought we played well throughout the game, although from my viewpoint I never thought West Ham were out of the game until we scored our third goal.

“I thought Stephane Sessegnon did great, David Vaughan was terrific and then Seb Larsson has scored a great goal and for the next 15 minutes has not put a foot wrong.

“All around the pitch though I was pleased.

“We had essentially two midfield players – for example – playing in full-back positions.

“Craig Gardner has got used to playing there over the course of the season I think.

“And. Jack Colback (pictured right) played remarkably well in the absence of Danny Rose.

“The win was important for us.

“But anyone in the bottom half of the table still has to be looking anxiously over their shoulders.

“That said, it was our fourth win in seven games and in the context of things it was a very useful three points.”
