Birthday Make over.

Sunderland’s world class Stadium of Light will be getting an overhaul for her 20th Birthday.

It’s hard to believe that Sunderland AFC left Roker Park at the end of the 1997 season to move to the SOL, opening with a friendly match against Ajax which ended in a 0-0 draw.

With 20 years of heavy use which has included several music concerts from some of the biggest artists on the planet, to international games.  The Stadium of Light is in need of some TLC, one of the main things will be the replacement of those sun bleached seats.  Beginning life in glorious red over time some of the seats have now faded to a shade of  washed out pink.  The seats will gradually be replaced working around Sunderland’s home fixtures.

The clubs main hospitality suite, taking its name from the legendary Jimmy Montgomery will also see some upgrades.

The tunnel will also see some new graphics, which will show some of the current Sunderland team as well as local history of the city.
