Welsh can operate as a striker as well as a winger and is highly rated by Stockport manager Sam Mclroy and had this to say on the issue.
"Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is a big fan and we'll have to see what happens. I haven't heard from Mick yet, but it could be a permanent deal. If one is offered there is no way we could stand in the lad's way."
