Steve Caldwell
Out of the dark and into The Light!

Steve Caldwell has departed Newcastle and signed for Sunderland as expected on a three year deal. The 23 yr old Scotland international centre back is said to be delighted at joinging Mick McCarthy's every growing youthful team and had this to say on joining the lads.

"My focus is on getting Sunderland into the Premiership," said Caldwell.

"This is a big club and we want to get back into the Premier League where it belongs.

"I know the size of this club from living in the North East for so long.

"I'm delighted the move has finally gone through.

"I was very impressed when I met the manager and he is putting a good young team together.

"I enjoyed my time at Newcastle but I'm ready to move on and I'm really looking forward to the challenge ahead."

This makes Steve Caldwell, Mick McCarthy's fifth signing so far as he builds a complete new look Sunderland side. As the Sunderland Prophet said (Link at bottom of article), Sunderland will have a very youthful team next season, with allot more pace and allot more goals, let's just hope our prophet's prediction is correct.

Mick has so far signed Stephen Elliott (Striker), Carl Robinson (Holding midfielder), Dean Whitehead (Attacking left winger, inside left), Liam Lawrense (Attacking right winger, inside rightStriker) and Steve Caldwell (Centre back).

All are young and all have great potential, something I think the Sunderland team needed, that being a face lift.

There's a great chance that Sunderland may well be plotting a raid for Swindon town striker Sam Parkin and Mick is beleived to be in talks with PSV regarding Portugal U21 striker Silva.
