Colback is out of contract in the summer and could be picked up on a free transfer, something Sunderland boss Guy Poyet is attempting to avoid.
Colback has been in talks with the Stadium of Light side over a new deal for some time but may well look to hold out until the summer given that Sunderland are in a real relegation dogfight.
Colback is into his fifth season in the Sunderland first team having joined the club as a ten year old and has started 20 of the club’s 26 Premier League fixtures so clearly a pivotal member of the first team set-up.
