Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been named North East Football Writer’s Play of the year, beating Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan.

The award has gone to a Sunderland player for the second time in a row as defender Danny Collins got the votes last year.

The honour will be officially hand to Darren this coming Sunday, at the writers annual dinner.
