Sunderland defender Paul McShane, has been told by specialists that he will need to go under the knife to fix a knee problem. Mcshane picked up a knock playing in Sunderland's pre-season friendly against Darlington. The news may be welcomed by many Sunderland fans that have been witness to several dismissal performances by the irishman, althought new Manager Steve Bruce is willing to give Mcshane a chance to gain a place in the squad.
