A Sunday newspaper had reported that Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe was on his way out of Sunderland, which kicked off a growing rumour that he was off back down South. It even got as far as saying that Bournemouth where signing the striker, the newly promoted side were apparently interested in him at the start of the transfer window.
But this afternoon Defoe himself hit back on his personal instagram account at one Sunderland fan leaving comments:
Defoe wrote, “I understand ur frustration but just to let u know I’ve never asked to leave the club don’t appreciate u sending me that messaging don’t always believe what u read I came to this club to score goals and that’s what I’m going to do”
The fan then when on to apologise to Defoe, in which he replied:
“It’s ok just don’t like people questioning my commitment”
