Stokes, 19, scored the 92nd-minute winner against Derby at the weekend, to drag the Wearside club out of the relegation zone. But while the Sunderland boss admits that Stokes possesses great talent, he has moved to warn the ex-Arsenal youngster to spend more time on the training field - than in bed nursing a hangover.

Keane told The Sun: "He can go as far as he wants. I keep saying that to him.
"He could be a top, top player or he could be playing non-league in four or five years' time.

"He does things in training a lot of players can't do."

He added: "The obvious pitfall is places like the Glass Spider.

"He's young and he's going to make mistakes but he has to be careful.

"He has to work extremely hard and listen to the good staff we've got here, who are always encouraging him."
