Has Cup Run Got Us In This Position?

Gus Poyet: “The Capital One Cup final was a bigger occasion, and the players reacted very well to that.

“Most of the players who played yesterday have been in the team most of the time, so it wasn’t that we tried something unique or sprung a surprise.

“It was just a really disappointing first half-hour.

“It’s very disappointing when you start a game as important as this one, the way we did.

“We started badly, we were too deep, we were not getting close enough to any of the actions.

“I think it was a mix of us being bad on the day and Norwich being very brave.

“When you put all that together, you find yourself one-nil down totally deservedly.

“Then the second goal [Tettey’s], doesn’t happen every week.

“He won’t score another one like that this year – I’d put money on it.

“It meant I made decisions that I don’t like. I don’t like to change players in the first half.

“It wasn’t a matter of one or two players – it was seven or eight, but you can’t change eight.

“It was a bad first half. I didn’t like it, I didn’t enjoy it and it wasn’t what I expected.”
