So, Roma are set to pounce on Sunderland once the transfer window opens up in the summer.

The Italian side are said to be gathering up for a move for Sunderland’s Dutch left back Patrick van-Aanholt.

The Holland international started the season with a shocker, performance wise, but since the arrival of Sam Allardyce he has really blossomed.  So much so he is attracting the attention of other clubs, this coupled with Sunderland struggling season.

If Sunderland are to go down this season there will be no doubt a wave of players will be wanting away, with the club also looking to reduce the wage bill.

Rumours that Roma are in the market for a left back, with Paris Saint-Germain’s  Lucas Digne also in their sights but that would most likely be a loan deal, whereas van Aanholt would be permanent.

The chances of Champions League football as to the Championship, would be a huge pull for a young player with no ties.
