Johnson Wants Walcott's Place!

Johnson has been in outstanding form for the Black Cats since the turn of the year after netting seven goals in his last seven games.

And that return has caught the attention of Hodgson, who is due at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to see Sunderland’s bid to secure a third successive Premier League victory against Steve Bruce’s Tigers.

Johnson hasn’t represented his country since August 2012 and was last included in the squad two months after that.

With Theo Walcott ruled out of the summer’s World Cup, fellow winger Johnson offers an in-form alternative.

Adam Johnson: “Of course I’ve missed it. The best thing as a player is playing for England.

“A few months ago, I thought I had no chance, but now maybe.

“If there’s any time to do it, it’s now.

“I just missed out on the World Cup in 2010.

“It’s amazing how football comes around because here I am again.

“It’s for other people to decide, but there’s nothing much better than playing for England.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard and if it’s recognised, I’ll be delighted.”

England face Denmark in a friendly at Wembley on March 5, with Hodgson due to name his squad for the game on February 27.
