Sunderland and England winger Adam Johnson’s court appearance at Peterlee Magistrates Court has been moved to Monday 18th May, as he faces sex offence charges.

Johnson was arrested at the beginning of March accused of sexual activity with a child of under 16, he was originally due in court on the 20th May.   Sunderland football club initially suspended the player while he was undergoing police investigations, but has more recently and controversially been reinstated by the club after his bail had been extended.

To echo the words of Gerry Wareham, the Crown Prosecution Service’s chief prosecutor of the North East, that everyone is entitled to a fair trial.
