The Danish keeper was stretchered off in the 12th minute of the game at Highbury following an accidental collision with both Thierry Henry and his own team-mate Jody Craddock.

Black Cats boss Peter Reid revealed after the game that Sorensen has dislocated his right elbow and will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Reid said: "Thomas has dislocated his elbow. He went straight to hospital and it has been set but he will be out for something like two or three months now.

"That is a blow for us but I thought that Thomas Myhre did well when he came on and he was unlucky with the free-kick for the third goal."
