League Position Review

Last updated : 17 March 2004 By John Jenkin

After Sunderland's very, very disappointing 1-1 draw against Stoke at the Stadium of Light, it currently leaves Sunderland on 56 points and still out side the play-offs.

West Brom and Norwich won last night, but 3rd pace gained no ground as Sheffield United drew.

Sunderland still have two games in had over every team above them, three in some cases.

If we win those two games in hand and the third game in hand over some, which happens to be Norwich at home, then we can move into 3rd place, 3 points clear of 4th or even 6 points clear depending on Sheffield United, Wigan and West Ham's game in hand results over West Brom.

Winning these games in hand would give us 65 points, which is only 5 points behind Norwich.

The table reads worse than it is, as there is only 3 points between 9th and 3rd.

Sunderland are still capable of winning automatic promotion and winning the league, but the key to this is winning our games in hand.

Our games in hand are Gillingham (H), Wimbledon (A) and Norwich (H).

On a personal note, I think Norwich will win the league, but I beleive Sunderland will take 2nd. If I am wrong, then promotion through the play-offs is our prize.
