"I've enjoyed every single minute of it," McCarthy said.
"I'm sure I've got support and I'm sure there are people that think otherwise.
"I'll move on and eventually do something else. It's been brilliant and I've thoroughly enjoyed the support of the fans."
Kevin Ball will take charge of first team affairs for the forseeable future.
