McCarthy not getting carried away

Sunderland cruised to a 4-0 victory at Valley Parade and although delighted with the win, McCarthy played down talk of an immediate reurn to the Premiership based on three victories in seven days.

"We made a bright start, scored an early goal and I didn't think the result was ever in doubt after that.

"It is a completely different side from the team that played in the Premiership last season, and I believe we are doing things in the right way, but I didn't get carried away during our losing run and I won't get carried away just because we have won three matches in succession.

"However, these three wins have taken a lot of weight off us. You could see that by the way we approached the game. The players reflect the mood in the club by playing with more confidence and self-belief."
