Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez maybe going back to where he came from to new promoted Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Gomez came to Sunderland on a free transfer under Gus Poyet 2 years ago and was a regular first team player in his first season.  But then the following season struggled to fit in, ending up loaned out in February to Blackburn Rovers.

The Spaniard at 31 years old looks to be one of those players listed by Sam Allardyce for the shop window, ready for Big Sam to bring in some fresh legs.

It was rumoured that Gomez was offered to Wigan last season, but while in the 1st Division a player of his standard may have proven financially difficult.

Wigan’s manager Gary Caldwell is no stranger to Jordi Gomez, having been previously team’s mates at Wigan.
