There has been a lot of talk and quotes in the press since Martin O’Neill joined Sunderland officially on Monday.  It has been well publicised that O’Neill was in attendance at the Wolves defeat this weekend, and has already started to identify problem areas.  But let’s face facts you don’t have to be an expert to see we need a goal scorer, well unless you’re a certain Geordie that is currently signing on right now.  There is also no doubt Sunderland will be linked with a boat load of names, in which if you do keep up to date with the rumours you will have heard a few already.

There must be funding available to the new boss although he has denied that it was discussed during his contract talks, the likes of Sir Niall would be able to see where the team lacks ability and can see that someone need to be brought in.

O’Neill has also been questioned regarding the status of striker Asamoah Gyan, which he replied that he has seen Gyan play and does rate him, but regarding his future on wearside would have to be discussed with Sir Niall Quinn.
