Stephen Wright Stats:

Position: Right Back
D.O.B - 08.02.80
Born - Liverpool
Height - 5ft 11in

History:

Stephen Wright joined Sunderland in a £3m deal from Liverpool in the week leading up to the start of the 2002-2003 Premiership campaign.

He made his debut just days later at Blackburn Rovers when he went head-to-head with Damien Duff, and helped the Black Cats keep a clean sheet.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Anfield but saw his route into the team blocked by the return to fitness of Markus Babbel and the signing of Abel Xavier.

Wright has played a number of times for the England Under-21 team.

He made 25 Premiership appearances in his first year at the Stadium of Light before suffering a hamstring injury which forced him to miss the last three months of the season.

Review:

Stephen Wright joined the Stadium of Light in a baptism of fire and to be honest, would have found it hard to shine in a team that was peforming so poorly.

This season Stephen Wright is one of the first names down on Mick McCarthy's team sheet. Stephen Wright has been showing the abilty he had shown at Anfield and has every chance of becoming a future England international, but his chance would only come if Sunderland are in the top flight.
