Poyet: 'My Objective? To Beat Very Good Teams!'

Last updated : 16 February 2014 By Tott Dixon - Seaham

Gus Poyet: “I think we should treat every game as a cup game!

“I still don’t understand why we win in the cup but we can’t win in the league.

“I’m trying to find the answer.

“I was pleased yesterday – it was a good day for me.

“There were a few players who really put themselves in the frame and they will have a chance sooner than I was expecting because of what they have done yesterday.

“They showed plenty of energy, we cared about the ball, we tried to go and win the game – we did a lot of things right.

“The position we played Craig yesterday is the best position for him.

“When he plays behind the striker he finds himself in positions to try shots, and he is probably one of the best at that.

“In previous games, we probably didn’t put him in that situation too many times.

“You have to find the player on the edge of the box at the right time and then it is up to him, and he showed yesterday what he can do.

“It was the move of the day and what a shot.

“If you don’t pay attention to the cup and you go out, people say you are a bad manager and you should have played a stronger team.

“If you win, they say it is a problem.

“You’re in a no-win situation!

“We are just trying to build the feeling that we are a good team and that we can win football games against very good teams.”
