The Black cats have had a disastrous start to the beginning of the Championship campaign, losing their first three games. However the Irishman has moved to assure fans that he is working long and hard in his attempts to freshen up the squad.

"We've put our foot on the pedal in terms of responding to what happened last week in the transfer Market" he told Sky sports.

"We have five bids that we believe are getting close to acceptance and we are in discussion with a Bosman, who are in competition with two Italian clubs."

Quinn is also aiming to bring players who will display the kind of passion that made him a Sunderland hero, and a firm fans favourite during his time at the club.

"There is a little thing that has to be achieved when you step over the white line at Sunderland. and that is you must have no fear- of what the crowd is doing, of what the other team is doing. You must play with a heard and spirit above all others.

"That is the vital ingredient when we look for signings and when playing for us."
