Sunderland released a hand full of under 21’s that sadly didn’t make the cut, but for one of those young players, Scottish side Kilmarnock could be offering a career boost.

Midfielder Martin Smith could be moving north of the border into Scotland, after he wasn’t offered a contract at Carlisle United where he spent the last few months of the season on loan.

It is thought that Lee Clarke’s side are ready to offer the 20 year old a three year deal, as Kilmarnock look to build a side that can compete in the Scottish Premiership.

But it is understood that Scottish side Kilmarnock are ready to sign the 20-year-old on a free transfer, with a three-year contract being proposed.
