Matt Piper gave Sunderland's second string the lead just after the half-hour mark at Ewood Park but Jemal Johnson equalised for the hosts just two minutes before half time.

Daryl Murphy then gave Sunderland the lead for the second time only forJoel Byram to equalise for Rovers from a 25-yard free kick.

Final score 2-2.
