Steve Bruce wants Zenden Extension

Steve Bruce is hoping to persuade Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden to stay on at the SOL, even though the 33 year old has said that he seeks first team action and may be forced to move elsewhere.

Bolo is quoted saying "I’ve been happy at Sunderland but I am here to play and I would have liked more minutes on the pitch. But that’s the way it goes."

“I signed a one-season contract with the option of a second year. I don’t know if I will be staying we haven’t even started to talk about that, so we’ll have to see.”

But after scoring one of the best goals scored by a Sunderland player this season in the 3-1 win over Tottenham, Steve Bruce is keen to hang on to the experienced player.

Bruce spoke about Bolo saying, "To be fair to me, when I was looking for him to start games, if I look back at the records, he picked up a couple of niggly injuries.

"That's par for the course at his age and it meant I couldn't play him."

"But you saw his goal at the weekend, he does have that ability in his locker, and he's a great player to bring on to be able to settle the side down."

"I think Bolo will be a little bit disappointed he hasn't played as much, but he does understand that unfortunately for him he's at the wrong end of his career."

"But you can see from the goal he got at the weekend what a player he must have been in his day. As I've repeatedly said, you don't play for Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Marseille if you're not a good player.

"That goal against Spurs was as good as you'll see. The technique for the dropping volley. Wow!"

"And the one thing he has helped me with is the development of the young players. If you watch him as an older pro, he's a great pro.”

"So I will sit down with him over the next 24, 48 hours and see what he wants to do.”

"I would like to keep him for another year because he's got something to offer."
