Stewart loan bid rejected

Wolves enquired about the possibility of a loan move for the 30-year-old Black Cats striker, who has struggled to command a regukar place since arriving in August as part of a £10million deal which also brought Tore Andre Flo to the Stadium of Light.

Stewart is yet to score in the Premiership for Sunderland, but he has collected four in two Worthington Cup appearances.

"We've had numerous inquiries for players to go on loan," said a club spokesman.

"One of those was this request for Marcus Stewart, but the club's response was to say no."
