The emergence of Stephen Jordan at Man City has pushed Thatcher into the queue for a first-team place. This paves the way for a loan deal which could be completed within the next few days.

Also linked with a move to Wearside are Spurs pair, Andy Reid and Callum Davenport - although Davenport may be hard to acquire with the recent injury to Ledley King.
