Vergini isn't going home.

Loanee Santiago Vergini may well be staying on at Sunderland, after his homeland side Newell’s Old Boys have dropped out of a deal to sign him.

Vergini on loan last season with the contract with Sunderland saying if the Black Cats where to stay up last season then he would be entitled to a permanent deal on Wearside.

Sunderland having stayed up, and Vergini making several appearances, it seems that the clause has kicked in, even though Sunderland’s current manager Dick Advocaat doesn’t rate the defender.

It was hoped that a buyer would come in before Sunderland had to sign any deal with the Argentine International, Newell Old Boys showed interest but now it seems that cash will stop the move.
