Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has began his search for a new manager to take the reins after Ricky Sbragia announced he was stepping down.

Quinn has promised the Sunderland fans a big name not only to move the club forward but who can attract big name signings.  The Sunderland chairman also commented on how he will not be rushed into bringing in a new manager until he has scoured the world for the right man.

Quinn said, “We don’t need to rush to make this important decision, we will take our time in the coming weeks so as to make the right appointment.”

Media and bookmakers have put Wigan manager Steve Bruce as favorite to land the role although this news has mixed feeling from the Sunderland fans, and if its anything to go by when Sunderland got Roy Keane in, it could be far from reality.

There have been many other names also rumoured, Slaven Bilic, Frank Rijkaard and Steve McClaren, ex Spurs boss Martin Jol was also mentioned by the press but Jol has been recently revealed as Dutch team Ajax's new managed.  There is no doubt that there will be a few more names that will be pulled in by the media before any official announcement is made.
