Barnsley Banter

Last updated : 19 October 2006 By Martyn Bowers

Barnsley used to be in the Premiership then it all seemed to go downhill. How long do you think it will be before you're realistically challenging for promotion to the top flight again?

A good few seasons I expect, 3 at least. Our main aim is to consolidate back in the Championship, get the house in order and then push on. It's just great to be back where we feel we belong.

Will you be coming to the game on Saturday?

Unfortunately not, work commitments, The Stadium of Light is a smashing stadium though, 3rd biggest in England isn't it?

Have you ever been to the Stadium Of Light before?

Nope, but its definitely on my list! I think we were the first team to beat you there when you moved so fingers crossed for Saturday!

Which Barnsley player(s) should Sunderland be wary of?

When on form our two wingers Martin Devaney and Michael McIndoe are unplayable so you best have good full-backs!

Which Sunderland players (if any) will you fear most?

I know Liam Lawrence is a good player because we tried to sign him a couple of years ago whilst players like Graham Kavanagh have bags of experience that out midfield unfortunately doesn't have. And then you have proven goal-scorers like Jon Stead and Dwight Yorke upfront. Our defence has conceded the most in the league so I'm worried.

What did you think of Roy Keane during his playing days and what do you think of him now?

Well he was a fantastic player wasn't he. Although he had his critics I think everybody would have loved him in their side. I think his aggressiveness and hunger to win will make him a good manager. Man Utd seem to have a production line for managers in Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes so theres no reason Keano can't be next!

Where do you think both teams will finish this season?

Well I know Sunderland are on a bit of a slump at the moment but I'm confident they'll come good and make the play-offs. I think Barnsley will just scrape 4th bottom. That though will be a success.

What will the score be on Saturday?

We won our first 2 away games but have lost the rest so hate to say it but 2-1 to Sunderland.
