The Black Cats midfielder has been put in plaster as a precautionary measure after straining his ankle ligaments in a challenge with Everton 'keeper Richard Wright.

Assistant manager Adrian Heath said: "Gav will not be right for Leeds. He did it early in the game against Everton and did well to play on. He's not one to feel the pain.

"The ankle is bruised and swollen and we'll see how it is later in the week. He could play against Manchester United, we have not ruled him out of that one."
