PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Year - 2021/22 nominees

90min is the home of the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month Award for the 2021/22 & 2022/23 seasons.

Each month, you can vote for your favourite players across five divisions of English football, for the chance to win incredible prizes, including the opportunity to present the award to the winning player.

The 2021/22 League One season is now in the books. Next up, it's time for the awards.

It was a season to remember as Wigan hung on to claim the title, narrowly seeing off competition from Rotherham and MK Dons, with things at both ends of the table being decided on the final day of the season.

Here are your nominees for the 2021/22 PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Year award...

1. Alfie May (Cheltenham Town)

Appearances: 46
Goals:
23
Assists:
4

Alfie May enjoyed the best season of his career as he helped Cheltenham stay away from the relegation zone.

The Robins were one of the early favourites for the drop but that was not an issue with May leading the line.

May helped himself to a career-high 23 goals as he started every game for Michael Duff's side.

2. Ross Stewart (Sunderland)

Appearances: 46
Goals:
24
Assists:
5

Scottish striker Ross Stewart was the top scorer in League One for much of the season as he pushed Sunderland towards the promotion places.

Stewart finished with 24 goals, the best of his career, and he will hope to help the Black Cats into the Championship.

It is the first time Stewart has hit double figures since his first ever season with Albion Rovers in 2017.

3. Will Keane (Wigan Athletic)

Appearances: 44
Goals:
26
Assists:
6

Will Keane really stepped up for Wigan this season as he fired them to promotion.

The Latics lost Charlie Wyke midway through the season but Keane made sure he was not missed.

The Irish international set a personal record as he finished with 26 goals, landing himself atop the league's scoring charts in the process.

4. Barry Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday)

Appearances: 45
Goals:
9
Assists:
12

Barry Bannan's all-round play was vital to Sheffield Wednesday's promotion push this season.

Never has he scored more than the nine he chimed in with this year, while his 12 assists were perhaps even more important.

His side fell short in the play-offs but he'll be hoping to be back in the Championship soon enough.

5. Wes Burns (Ipswich Town)

Appearances: 37
Goals:
12
Assists:
7

Ipswich's brilliant Welsh wing-back Wes Burns enjoyed a brilliant campaign in Suffolk.

Burns was nominated for the monthly honours numerous times, and it is easy to see why.

12 goals from Ipswich's right was outstanding whilst he also pitched in with seven assists. Not too shabby.

6. Scott Twine (Milton Keynes Dons)

Appearances: 44
Goals:
20
Assists:
13

Unquestionably one of the most talked-about players at this level, Scott Twine had a brilliant season for MK Dons.

His four goals in the final game of the season at Plymouth was a highlight as the Dons just missed out on promotion.

Twine, who played across the front-line, bagged 20 goals to go along with 13 assists.
