Recent press release's adding former Black Cats boss Peter Reid to the ever growing list of managers linked to the Sunderland job, are today said to be wide of the mark.

Peter Reid, the man who put together arguably Sunderland's best ever striking partnership Kevin Phillips and current chairman Niall Quinn, also guiding Sunderland to highest ever premier league finish in 2001.

Reid is currently under contract with Thailand's national team and wishes to honour that contract.

Peter Reid made these comments, "I said that in a certain amount of time I want go back to England."

"But I have a contract in Thailand that I want to fulfil."

"I didn't say I wanted to go back to Sunderland, sometimes in England you get misquoted."

"I haven't been offered the job at Sunderland and I will not take it if I am offered it. I haven't asked for the job at Sunderland."
