After Sunderland’s defeat to Spurs at the weekend, two mysteries have come about, who told Papy Djilobodji that he could be a defender and what was the crack with Patrick van Aanholt.
The Dutch defender was down to start on Saturday, even out on the pitch warming up minutes before the game. Then what seems to have been caught on camera, Jason Denayer informs him that he has been dropped. Denayer struggles his shoulders in an “I don’t know what going on” manner, tells Van Aanholt the news.
Van Aanholt then responded with a confused “who me? Are you sure” look, while pointing at himself. He is then seen angrily kicking the ball away, to then spent the game watching from the side-lines.
When Moyes was questioned about it, he refused to comment other than the change was down to a medical reason.
